WHAT TO EXPECT: THE THIRD DECADE.
BY SUMMER BLOCK KUMAR

- - - -

Keep in mind that all adults reach their developmental milestones at their own pace.
It is important not to compare your adult's rate of development to that of his peers.
The following list is meant only as a guideline and not as a cause for alarm.

By thirty-years-old, your adult will probably be able to...

Feed and maintain a house pet
Hold down a job
Maintain eye contact while speaking
Refrain from discussing high school
Cook a meal (three-course)
Make small talk
Forgive his family
Acknowledge other viewpoints (social)
Detect and respond to ambiguity
Finish school

Your thirty-year-old adult may be able to...

Make a martini (vodka)
Tie a half-Windsor knot
Drive a manual transmission
Refrain from discussing college
Get married
File his taxes (EZ form)
Remember 5-10 friends' birthdays
Acknowledge other viewpoints (political)
Get a flu shot
Give a toast
Install storm windows
Go back to school

Some advanced thirty-year-olds may possibly be able to...

Make a martini (gin)
File his taxes (standard 1040)
Make and keep dental appointments
Have a baby
Finish school

I have wanted to post here on Livejournal every day, but I have been ill with the cough that wouldn't leave, and living in a house where all we do is pass around the kleenex box. Basically, I've been living on Advil and Decongestants for days now. My Christmas Tree is up, but only because my daughter has a ton of energy and the Christmas Spirit.

My husband, who is an eternal optimist even when the money dries up and we have to eat hamburger every night, keeps saying "Christmas is a Season Not a Day." That is our Kimsey Family Motto this month, but I'm having trouble seeing it. So I've had to look for comfort from my fantasy world.

I made Seven Sev's A Snapin' Icons on [info]nettlebrew ~ Enjoy!

One thing that has cheered me up is this poem by TreacleTartlet on Chamber of Secrets Forum:

Christmas Alphabet
C is for the cloak which billows with his every pace.
H is for the hair of black that hangs about his face.
R is for the Roman nose distinguished and sublime.
I is for the icy stare he gives if you step out of line.
S is for the snark dispensed with wit and ease
T is for the thin physique I'd dearly love to squeeze.
M is for the mistletoe needed to steal a kiss.
A is for Avada Kedavra duck and he might miss.
S is for Severus Snape no fangirl can forget.
Be good and you'll get everything in my Christmas alphabet.

It's all Malfoys this time. And even when it's not the Malfoys, it's
the Blacks. We couldn't seem to break away. Our friends from L&S drop
in and chat about the Black sisters while the Gurus take pot shots at,
er, discuss the Malfoy family. As usual, there's lots of fun, filks,
Wrock, and laughter.

These three interview clips with Alan Rickman at the Hudson Union Society last week are just so wonderful and that's all I can say about them! In the first one above the cut he says that he is about to shoot a scene for Deathly Hallows in which he talks to 300 kids, so I presume that is all about Snape being Headmaster at Hogwarts. He also talks about shooting a scene with just himself and Ralph Fiennes ~ the scene in the Shack perhaps? That makes me sad.

This is a real treat! An interview with Alan Rickman on the Deluxe SS DVD. Chris Columbus talks about hiring Rickman, and being afraid that he would say no to the role.

Rickman:
"I don't think I had much choice in the matter. Lots of godchildren, nephews, and nieces were, um, not only excited - I think insistent (laughs). When you see this movie you're not going to see all of these huge mechanics and the months of editing. You're just going to watch a close-up on two little boys and a little girl's face. The center of the story. And unless that reads, the film won't work.
